President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo is meeting journalists for the first time since his swearing in, to render an account of his stewardship within the past six months and answer questions from them. He is expected to touch on security, illegal mining, the economy, the National Health Insurance (NHIS), infrastructure, education, good governance among others. Minister of Information, Mustapha Hamid has mentioned that the President will be opened to ideas, suggestions and constructive criticisms that would smoothen the rough edges of his vision for Ghana. He has refuted assertions the President will shower himself with praises stressing that the government will welcome criticisms to shape its policies. “He thinks that this interaction with the Ghanaian people is a democratic requirement that as a democratic president, once a while you come back to the people to tell them what you have done with the mandate they have given you. It is not a press interaction to engage in self-aggrandizement… We will not come and give ourselves marks. The president will make a few remarks and then we will take questions.” This is not the first time a sitting president is availing himself for a media interaction as it was witnessed during the reigns of former presidents John Agyekum Kufour, John Atta Mills and John Mahama.
